Funding and Scholarships

Funding is many students' main concern when considering studying abroad. Most UNM students utilize a combination of financial aid, scholarships, and their own money to participate in exchange. In almost all cases, you can use your financial aid (Pell Grant, New Mexico Lottery Success Scholarship, The Opportunity Scholarship, loans, etc.)!

National Student Exchange Grant

Grantees will be encouraged to share their knowledge and experiences upon return within the university community, as well as with communities and organizations in New Mexico and beyond. In this effort, GEO seeks to identify and assist meritorious students who might otherwise not be able to afford an exchange program, to assist non-traditional students and underrepresented groups. Amounts awarded vary each semester.

Eligibility

 You are eligible to apply if you are:

  • An undergraduate, degree-seeking UNM student;

  • In good academic standing at UNM;

  •  Approved to participate in a UNM National Exchange Program (This means you must have some kind of application open in the GEO Study Abroad & Exchange system)

  • Able to demonstrate financial need.

Grants may not be deferred; if you are awarded a grant but decide to postpone your study abroad, you will have to submit a new grant application.
